I've been using Turbo Tax for 10+ years and once I fell for the old bait-and-switch when I thought the 'Deluxe' version was worth the extra bucks. Wrong. The Basic version does everything most taxpayers need, and does it quite well, even if you have a mortgage and itemize deductions. Don't think you need to upgrade if you have a few complexities to your return or you're not using 1040EZ. That's especially true if you live in a state without state income tax (thank you Texas). Can't speak for rental properties or other complicated examples, but paying extra so someone can tell me what my donated pair of shoes is worth just isn't worth it.Turbo Tax Basic By Briteboy
Have used Turbo Tax since...forever. Never disappointed. My taxes are rather complex as I have a small corporation, as well as personal taxes. TTax takes care of all of the right forms. (it does not do the corporate tax forms, but it makes sure I have the right ones in hand before I can proceed to filing)
I'm not sure why anyone would want to spend the extra money for Deluxe or Premier. The Basic version does everything I need and more.

I am a certified AARP TaxAide volunteer and do tax returns for senior citizens with the TaxWise program used by the IRS. I also do the taxes for my two brothers-in-law, both of whom have small business income. For them I use TurboTax Basic every year. I know there are more advanced (and expensive) versions of the program, but frankly, Basic is all that 90% of us need. It even will do K-1 forms for those of us who have income from limited partnerships. I should note that Turbotax Basic does not include state tax forms. However, in my state (Illinois) the free on-line E-File return takes only about 15 minutes to complete. Of course, if you would like more bells and whistles, that's fine, too, for the extra price. The Best-Selling TurboTax Basic Federal + e-File 2010 - [Old Version] then to sell out very fast, if this is a must have product, be sure to order now to avoid disappointment.
