Switching back to TaxCut By W. Thomason
After using Turbo Tax for many years, I switched to TaxCut for my 2008 return. This was due to Turbo tax removing Schedule D from their 2008 Deluxe version. (verified online looking at the list of supported forms). Being forced to use the much more costly Premier version, along with the increasing annoyances of constantly being asked if I wanted to 'upgrade' to get this way cool feature, I made the switch.
Overall I found taxCut would do the job, but was not as smooth as Turbo Tax. Turbo tax tends to ask better guidance questions, and digs deeper into specific issues, while I felt taxCut would tend to require you to go directly to the forms and make entries.
Last year I read a comment from, IIRC, the VP of marketing at Turbo tax where he 'claimed' that the Deluxe version DID support Schedule D, and that it had never been changed. Checking the site again, and yes Schedule D was listed as supported in the 2009 Deluxe version. So I went back to it. However, even though it did support schedule D,the WAY COOL feature of importing transactions from your stock broker was disabled! (It was in 2007 and prior versions as I used it often, and of course you COULD get this way cool feature in the 2009 version if you wanted to Upgrade to Premier!).
So, bottom line: I am going back to Tax Cut. Turbo Tax does IMHO have a better interview process, but their constant barking and offering to 'upgrade' (perhaps 10+ times while doing last years return), combined with removal of features - and perhaps a less then honest statement from their VP - has convinced me that I just do not need to pay for a product and have it in effect become an online advertisement for upgrades.
Sorry Turbo tax, you have lost me as a customer. Not because of your products capabilities, but because of your packaging and marketing decisions.Must accept Amazon's download software By Alice C.

Re: Turbotax, I haven't installed the 2010 version yet but I've used Turbotax for years. It can download 1099 information online from most brokerage houses, which saves data entry time for serious investors.BASIC Leaves Out Functions By A. WALLACE
TurboTax Basic used to cover homeowners, but for 2010, the program dropped many functions that were present in the previous years TurboTax. TurboTax is now deceptive forcing customers to more expensive upgrades to cover mortgage and education deductions. I will no longer use TurboTax, because you just don't know what you are getting from the marketing scripts.
